Do Not Die With the Dead

“Do not die with the dead.”

The graves are calling, the dirt is cold, Whispers try to claim my soul. But I’ve got breath, I’ve got flame, I won’t be buried in their name.

Do not die with the dead, Don’t lay down where they bled. Carry the fire, carry the song, Keep on breathing, keep riding strong. Their rest is theirs, but life’s not gone — Do not die with the dead.

I’ve walked the shadow, I’ve held the stone, Felt the weight of being alone. But every ghost that touched my hand Said, “Ride on, boy, take back the land.”

Do not die with the dead, Don’t fall where angels fled. The road is burning, the night is long, But your voice belongs in the living’s song. Their silence waits, but you belong — Do not die with the dead.

Grief’s a chain, but chains can break, Sorrow’s heavy, but hearts still wake. If death is calling, let him wait — The living’s burden is still too great.

Do not die with the dead, Don’t give away what’s left unsaid. Carry the torch, let the fire spread, Keep on walking where angels tread. For love, for loss, for all they said — Do not die with the dead.

“Do not… die… with the dead.”
