Amigo the Devil is Danny Kiranos, born in Miami in 1987 to a Greek father and Spanish mother. He studied horror filmmaking in Los Angeles, dropped out, detoured through culinary school and the San Francisco craft-brewing world, and somewhere along the way a one-man banjo act about killers and lonely people took over his life. His albums — Everything Is Fine (2018), Born Against (2021) and Yours Until the War Is Over (2024) — arrive on Liars Club, the label he co-founded, and each widened the palette from raw folk toward country, rock and heavier textures without losing the intimacy of a man, a banjo and a terrible story. Austin's mayor proclaimed November 16, 2019 "Amigo the Devil Day," and his touring footprint is unusually wide: he plays metal festivals like Louder Than Life, Welcome to Rockville, Aftershock and Riot Fest as comfortably as roots gatherings like Muddy Roots and Blue Ox, with a 2025-2026 calendar that has stayed full. His crowds are famous for singing every word back at him.
