I Kept Driving Through the Storm

Wipers slapping like a bad memory, Headlights shaking what I can’t unsee. Rain coming down like it’s got a point, Every mile testing every joint.

Radio dead, phone face down, No one left I’m calling now. Road don’t care what broke before, It just keeps asking for more.

I could’ve pulled over, could’ve shut it down, But stopping lets the ghosts catch up now.

I kept driving through the storm, Hands tight, eyes forward. Everything I lost behind me, Everything I am moving toward. Thunder talking, rain pouring, Night cutting me to the bone. I kept driving through the storm — ’Cause stopping would’ve left me alone.

I’ve outrun doubts, outrun blame, Outrun people saying I changed. Truth is I just stayed the same — Just learned how to live with pain.

Some men fold when the lights go low, Some sit still and let it swallow them whole. Me — I learned how to keep it straight When the road don’t negotiate.

Fear rides shotgun every time, I just don’t let it drive.
