The Earth Don’t Want Me Yet (Alt 2)

I’ve laid my head on the coffin’s lid, I’ve begged the dirt to let me in. But the grave stayed shut, the silence said, “The earth don’t want you yet, my friend.”

The earth don’t want me yet, My fire ain’t burned away. The soil has taken who I love, But I’ve still got miles to stay. I’ll walk through sorrow’s debt, The earth don’t want me yet.

I’ve felt the pull of the reaper’s hand, I’ve heard him whisper across the land. But every ghost I’ve tried to chase, Just turns and leaves me in my place.

The earth don’t want me yet, I’m bound to ride the dawn. The night may tear, the storm may burn, But the road still carries on. I ain’t through paying debt, The earth don’t want me yet.

Dust to dust will call my name, But not tonight, not through this flame. The dead are gone, their rest is set — The earth don’t want me yet.

The earth don’t want me yet, The grave won’t pull me down. I’ll bleed, I’ll burn, I’ll curse the dark, But I’ll still walk this ground. The fire ain’t finished, don’t forget — The earth don’t want me yet.
